Director, Merrimack Valley Amateur Radio Association, Inc.

I was initially licensed as a General Class FCC Amateur Radio operator in 1961.  I then achieved the First Class Radiotelephone Commercial FCC license and ultimately, the FCC Extra Class license.  My BSEE degree in Communications was obtained from Indiana Institute of Technology.  I began my career with Motorola Communications and Electronics.  One of my early assignments was setting up the first cellular sites and testing cellular phone #1 in the urban canyons of New York.  That was in March of 1973, prior to the inventor, Marty Cooper’s famous demonstration.

Following my cellular work, I designed and implemented many Public Safety Communications systems, including Massachusetts State Police, Connecticut State Police, State of Maryland and numerous County and Citywide systems along the east coast.   My roles included System Engineer, Engineering Manager, Principal Staff Engineer and Distinguished Member of the Technical Staff.

Since retiring in 2011, I have designed and implemented a New England wide digital repeater network of 95 sites. These are utilized for amateur radio special events that include the Boston Marathon and SKYWARN weather spotting.

Current memberships include the American Radio Relay League, Nashua Area Radio Society and President of the New England Digital Emergency Communications Network. Further info at http://nedecn.org
